The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will evaluate carriers whose BASICs scores indicate poor safety performance that could negatively impact highway safety. A more expansive methodology considers not only onsite compliance review results, but on-road performance and investigation results, as well.
The new safety evaluation will allow the FMCSA to:
- Employ a selection process that identifies which carriers are in need of Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) intervention, and which type of intervention is most appropriate
- Identify carriers that are a threat to highway safety and unfit to operate
